Dr Antony Kim PhD
-Biography

Antony Bum Kim, Ph.D., is an innovative researcher bridging architecture, engineering, and biological sciences to advance human health through environmental design. A U.S. Air Force veteran and legally blind, Antony draws from personal resilience to explore therapies promoting recovery for neurological challenges. His doctoral work at UC Berkeley focused on architectural daylighting's impact on circadian rhythms, pioneering experimental setups that modulate neural pathways via targeted light exposures to regulate sleep, arousal, and mood in models of seasonal affective disorder.

Extending his expertise, Antony integrates natural, plant-derived approaches to support rhythmic balance and emotional wellness, informed by his collaborations with institutions like the California Energy Commission and Philips. As a Schmidt-MacArthur Fellow, he advocated for circular economies in lighting design, while his publications in journals like the Journal of Biological Rhythms highlight light's role in awakening photoreceptor-driven responses in diurnal systems.

Antony's teaching and lectures at venues including Google and ARUP emphasize user-centered solutions, earning awards from ASHRAE and the Illuminating Engineering Society. Committed to holistic interventions, he continues basic research with rodent models, optimizing environments that foster vitality and adaptation for those facing sensory or rhythmic disruptions.
