We strive to advance neurological recovery through groundbreaking therapies and treatments.

Harnessing new techniques in our quest for effective solutions is our dedication.

Our quest for knowledge drives us to uncover impactful treatment methodologies.

SCI-DI is dedicated to revolutionizing care for veterans and individuals with neurological conditions, with a primary focus on the 294,000 Americans living with spinal cord injury (SCI), including 17,730 new cases annually. We prioritize the 42,000 U.S. veterans affected, who are three times more likely than civilians to experience SCI, yet remain underserved in research funding and resources. Our mission is to deliver innovative, accessible solutions that empower those with SCI, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and other neurological conditions to regain independence and enhance their quality of life.

By leveraging advanced technologies and pioneering therapies, SCI-DI provides practical, scalable solutions that accelerate recovery and minimize reliance on traditional healthcare systems. Our mission is to pioneer advancements in neurological rehabilitation through our work driven by:

  • Expanded Research and Clinical Trials: SCI-DI is committed to conducting large-scale clinical trials to explore the therapeutic potential of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), neuromodulation, psychedelics, and ketones, aiming to establish evidence-based protocols that revolutionize SCI and traumatic brain injury (TBI) recovery.

  • Inclusive Community Building: We cultivate vibrant, accessible communities that foster collaboration and support among individuals with neurological conditions, their families, and caregivers.

  • Innovative Partnerships: We partner with medical, military, and adaptive sports networks to standardize cutting-edge protocols, integrating therapies like adaptive scuba diving as recognized interventions for neurological recovery.

  • Funding and Advocacy: We aim to secure robust funding to drive pioneering research, ensuring sustainable advancements in transformative treatments for underserved populations.

SCI-DI’s vision is to redefine neurological rehabilitation by bridging innovation and accessibility, creating a future where veterans and others with SCI, TBI, and neurological conditions thrive through evidence-based, holistic solutions.

What Sets SCI-DI Apart

Innovative Solutions

SCI-DI develops specialized dive equipment and protocols tailored for divers with SCI, TBI, and neurological conditions. Our pilot program in Destin, Florida, demonstrated measurable benefits, including reduced pain, improved sleep, enhanced mental well-being, and relief from cognitive symptoms like brain fog. By optimizing weighting, buoyancy, and movement, we ensure safe, efficient, and empowering dive experiences. SCI-DI pushes the boundaries of neurological recovery through research into neuromodulation (e.g., vagus nerve and photic stimulation) and plant medicine. By focusing on objective biomarkers like cytokines, we quantify recovery outcomes for SCI, TBI, and other neurological conditions, providing data-driven insights to advance therapeutic approaches. Through collaboration with Azimuth, Inc.’s Diver6 system, SCI-DI incorporates real-time GPS tracking and communication, enhancing dive safety and situational awareness for adaptive divers with neurological challenges. SCI-DI goes beyond physical and cognitive recovery, fostering independence, community, and a renewed sense of possibility. By combining adaptive sports with innovative therapies, we create a comprehensive approach to improving quality of life for individuals with SCI, TBI, and neurological conditions. Scuba diving gave me a renewed sense of purpose, and through SCI-DI, I’m committed to sharing that gift with others. Our work is just beginning, but the impact is clear: adaptive diving and innovative therapies can transform lives for those with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and other neurological conditions. Whether through developing new equipment, conducting groundbreaking research, or building a supportive community, SCI-DI is paving the way for a more inclusive and empowered future.
